The original manor house of Scadbury Manor was built around 1200. The ruins you can see belong to a later manor house owned by the Walsingham family.

This was pulled down in the 18th century, and partially restored in the 1930s. There is more information on the display panel by the moat.

The Orpington and District Archaeological Society are excavating the site - see www.odas.org.uk.

The manor site includes all the land beside the moat. Because of its national importance, it is designated by Historic England as a Scheduled Ancient Monument.

Please help take care of it by keeping to the footpath.
